What we did in class, today – Students wrote a five-paragraph diagnostic essay on one of the following topics.
- Should students’ textbooks be replaced by e-books?
- Should it be illegal for children to buy violent video games?
- Should the death penalty be used to punish violent criminals?
They had 45 minutes in which to write the essay, and they uploaded it to Turnitin before the end of the hour. Students who wrote 350 words without accessing the Internet for information received full credit for this in-class assignment, regardless of mistakes.
Note to students – Today is the last day students who have iPads will be allowed to go to the library to write because they have not installed Word to their iPads or because they are unable to download files from Websites. You must have Word installed and you must have the app installed that allows you to download files. There is also a device sold by the Apple store so that you can attach a flash memory to your iPad.
Homework – There is no homework for Tuesday.
What we will do in class on Tuesday, Feb. 4 – I will distribute Achieve3000 user names and passwords. Students will sit for the Achieve3000 LevelSet diagnostic reading quiz. All students who take the diagnostic quiz will receive a mark for effort, regardless of their level.
