Practice rough draft

What we did in class, today – Using the assigned Achieve3000 articles “Going Gaga about Lady Gaga” and “Stopping the Bullies,” we wrote the rough draft of a comparison essay in the Achieve3000 Thought Question for “Going Gaga about Lady Gaga.” We referred to Development – introduction and Development – conclusion, as well as the handout on introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions.

Homework

  1. Finish writing the rough draft of your comparison article based on “Going Gaga about Lady Gaga” and “Stopping the Bullies,” if you did not finish in class, today. (Go to “Search” in Achieve3000. Type in “Going Gaga about Lady Gaga.” Choose the second article. After it opens, click on “Thought Question.” Write your rough draft in the frame.) You must finish your rough draft before class on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
  2. Open a Turnitin account before the beginning of class on Wednesday if you have not already done so. The class user name and password are available from the class syllabus in MyGUST.
  3. Download the essay template before you come to class on Wednesday. Save it to your hard drive as your own name – Essay 1, for example, John Smith Essay 1. It can be downloaded from the MyGUST portal or by clicking on the bolded words “essay template.”
  4. Go to Week 4 Vocabulary and Exercise folder MyGUST. After opening it, download and print the “Week 4 Vocabulary and Exercise” file. Memorize the vocabulary and complete the word form exercise before class on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Bring your completed homework to class.
  5. Read at least three Achieve3000 articles and do the corresponding Activities before midnight on Friday, October 3. (If you did not read three articles last week, then read extra ones this week.)

What we will do in class on Wednesday, Oct. 1 – We will practice the reading technique of context clues to read “What Part of ‘Woof’ Don’t You Get?” We will also write the rough draft for Essay 1. Therefore, you must open a Turnitin account before the beginning of class on Wednesday. Otherwise, you will lose marks on Essay 1. Also, download the essay template before you come to class on Wednesday. Save it to your hard drive as your own name – Essay 1, for example, John Smith Essay 1. It can be downloaded from the MyGUST portal.
