What we did in class, today – I introduced the persuasive essay. Students were given the handouts Essay 5 Guidelines, Essay Graphic Organizer, and Language of Argumentation & Persuasion. Using the graphic organizer, students wrote their thesis sentence in the appropriate box and then listed their three arguments, along with two supporting points for each argument. Then, they wrote a counterargument and refutation.
Section 55 Final Exam – Section 55 students will write their final exam from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 28.
- Read at least three Achieve3000 articles and complete the corresponding activities before midnight on Friday, Nov. 28.
- Review the following files: introductions, argument paragraphs, counterarguments, and refutations.
- Write your rough draft for Essay 5. It should include an introduction, two argument paragraphs, counterargument, and refutation. Be sure to cite the information that is not your idea. (We will write the conclusion later.) Bring a hard copy of your rough draft to class on Monday. Please come to me for help with writing and to Ms. Reem and Ms. Rawan for help with mechanics (grammar, punctuation, and spelling).
What we will do in class on Monday, Dec 1 – We will work on reading skills. Then, we will work on our rough drafts.
